The Edinburgh People’s Theatre’s production of The Book Club of Little Witterington won first prize and the Edith Forbes Trophy in the Edinburgh district round of the SCDA’s One Act Play Festival 2023, held at the Church Hill Theatre over Friday and Saturday evenings.

The Edinburgh district round of the 2023 SCDA One Act Play Festival got of to a strong start up at the Church Hill Theatre on Friday night with a trio of plays that demonstrated the versatility of the competing amateur companies and the quality of their actors.
Revelations of Rab McVie
★★★★☆ Fascinating
It is difficult to describe Revelations of Rab McVie – at the Traverse for two nights only – in a way that does this fascinating production justice. ‘Gig theatre’ too often suggests something either ramshackle or frighteningly ‘progressive’, while the piece’s own publicity, ‘an immersive journey through a psychedelic dreamscape’, also has unfortunate connotations.
King’s redevelopment back on!
Funding gap sufficiently reduced for work to commence
Work will now start on the long-awaited redevelopment of the King’s Theatre this Monday, 27 February, after Capital Theatre secured additional pledges of £7.2m for the project.

Autumn dates as UK tour opens at Playhouse
The first UK tour of Disney’s Aladdin is set to open this Autumn at the Edinburgh Playhouse, where the show is flying in for a four week run from 24 October to 18 November 2023.

The Edinburgh district round of the Scottish Community Drama Association’s annual One Act Festival will play the Church Hill Theatre this week, with seven plays over two nights on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February 2023.
