Brunton dark to June

All events at the Brunton before June affected

The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh is to go dark, initially until June, with all planned events unable to take place within the theatre building because of roof survey work across all performance spaces.

However, the Brunton says that it will not be cancelling any of its programme at this stage. It will be working with partner venues across East Lothian to try and find alternative venues and dates for booked shows.

The news comes following the shock discovery of structural issues within the theatre space during planned roofing inspection work last Wednesday 15 March 2023 (Brunton temporary closure).

The Brunton initially closed its main theatre space, with the cancellation of one show, but had hoped to continue using the upstairs Venue 1 and smaller Venue 2.

However in a statement published on social media today, Tuesday 21 March, Michael Stitt, Chairman of the Brunton Theatre Trust, said that East Lothian Council had informed them that more survey work still needs to be carried out.

The full statement reads:

East Lothian Council have informed us that further survey work needs to take place across all performance area roof spaces at The Brunton. Therefore we are currently unable to go ahead with planned events within The Brunton.

We are determined not to disappoint our customers or performers, therefore we will not be cancelling any of our programme at this stage. We ask you to please bear with us as we work to find alternative venues and dates for the events you are booked for, between now and June.
We will get back to you as soon as possible with more information.

Brunton Theatre Trust have a long history of staging professional arts and entertainment events out and about around East Lothian and we are now working with our partners to ensure that the shows will go on!
