Record-breaking show for Summer 2016

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats has been announced for the Edinburgh Playhouse, as part of its 2016/17 tour.

The production, which is currently playing a limited 11 week season at the London Palladium staring Beverley Knight as Grizabella, will arrive in Edinburgh in July.

No cast have yet been announced for the tour, which will play the Playhouse from Monday 4 to Saturday 9 July 2016.

The show received its world premiere in 1981 and the current revival, first seen in 2014, reunites the original creative team. Direction is by Trevor Nunn, choreography by Gillian Lynne and design by John Napier.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show blends fantasy, drama and romance. It is set on the one, special, night of the year when all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball.

Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
