Hansel and Gretel to be recorded at Festival Theatre
CBeebies 2019 Christmas Show is to be recorded at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre over four performances in October.
This year’s hotly anticipated fairy-tale adaptation will be Hansel and Gretel. Besides the usual range of CBeebies stars and presenters, Waffle the Wonder Dog will be featured for the first time.

This is also the first time that the show will be recorded in Scotland.
The four live theatre performances will take place at the Festival Theatre on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October.
The first tranche of tickets will go on sale from the Festival Theatre’s website, by phone and in person on Thursday 19 September at 10am. A second tranche will available from 10am on Thursday 26 September 2019.
The Christmas special will air on CBeebies on Saturday 7 December, when it will become available on BBC iPlayer. There will also be a a short cinema run from 30 November featuring exclusive content including a sing-along with Justin Fletcher.
enchanted forest
The specially written script will take Hansel and Gretel on a winter adventure through an enchanted forest. It will use the energy of the 1980s as the inspiration for its music, fashion and iconography.
The core message of the show is ‘never give up’. The siblings have to overcome the many dangers of the deep, dark wood, but with the help of magical woodland creatures and by not giving up, the pair prove that the only thing that matters at Christmas is being together.
