Date set for publication and meeting

Desire Lines, the project to crowd-source input to Edinburgh city council’s cultural strategy, will publish its initial findings in May.

A document will be available from the Desire Lines website from Tuesday 12 May, with a public meeting planned for the following Tuesday, 19 May. Booking for the meeting will open on eventbrite from Tuesday 5 May.

logoAccording to an email from the Desire Lines team: “The document will be a call to action with a series of clear aims and we feel it’s a good reflection of the dynamic city-wide conversation that took place.”

The purpose of the meeting is to present the findings and “explore structures to take the recommendations forward”. The eventbrite link will be made available on the Desire Lines website as soon as the event is live.

The document is scheduled to be presented to the next meeting of the city council’s culture and sport committee, which takes place on May 26, with final delivery date for the reviewed cultural policy not yet determined.

The first Desire Lines meeting took place last December with a public meeting at Summerhall. This was followed by two follow-up sessions at the Assembly Rooms in February.

Desire Lines is being run by a group of representatives from some of the Edinburgh’s cultural venues, organisations and networks, who were invited by the Council to work independently to make the consultation process for its cultural strategy happen.

It gets its name from an urban geography term for pathways created by “many people walking on the same course, creating a common route without the need for a prescribed direction”.
