Dreamgirls for Edinburgh
November 2020 date for R’n’B smash hit
Tickets are now on sale for Dreamgirls, the 1960s-set musical about the rise and rise of a three person R’n’B girl group, which is set to hit the Edinburgh Playhouse in November 2020.
The show, originally staged on Broadway in 1981 and made into a film with Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose in 2006, made a huge stir when it opened in London’s West End, running from 2016 to January this year.

Now the West End production is set to tour the UK. It opens at the Bristol Hippodrome in September, plays Aberdeen in November and arrives in Edinburgh for two weeks on Tuesday 24 November, 2020. Tickets for Edinburgh went on sale on Thursday 28 November 2019.
The original musical won six Tony awards from 13 nominations. The original cast sound track won won a Grammy – with Jennifer Holliday winning the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, the Act 1 closer that is a hit in its own right.
Indeed, Henry Krieger and Tom Eyen’s original songs, including Listen, I Am Changing and One Night Only are so strong in their own right that reviews of the 2016 London revival said it almost sounded like a jukebox musical.
The Dreams
The Dreams are Effie, Lorrell and Deena, three talented young singers in the turbulent 1960s, a revolutionary time in American music history. The three friends embark upon a musical rollercoaster ride through a world of fame, fortune and the ruthless realities of show business, testing their friendships to the very limit.
Casting for the Dreamgirls UK tour will be announced soon. This award winning production is directed and choreographed by Olivier and Tony Award-winning Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Mean Girls, Disney’s Aladdin and Something Rotten!), with Set and Costume Design by Tim Hatley, Lighting Design by Hugh Vanstone, Hair Design by Josh Marquette and Music Supervision by Nick Finlow.
