Iranfest features solo show

The Edinburgh Iranian Festival, running from 9 to 19 February 2017, will feature the Edinburgh-premiere of solo show Mimi’s Suitcase among the Iranian music and strong offering of Iranian cinema.

The solo show won the Audience Choice Award for Best Play at the 2016 Iranisches Theatre Festival in Heidelberg, Germany. It plays The Nomad’s Tent, at 21 St Leonard’s Lane on Friday 10 Feb.

Mimi’s Suitcase, by Ana Byatt, is the true story of a teenage girl who returns to her native Iran from Spain in the midst of the 1980s Iran-Iraq war. This involuntary uprooting awakens engaging questions about identity, language, culture and homeland in what is said to be a “hilarious and heart-warming universal coming-of age journey of resilience, humanity and, above all, hope”.

The play will be performed in English, Spanish and Persian with English subtitles. Tickets priced £12 (£10) are available from the Eventbrite booking site.
