October 2022 dates for Edinburgh Playhouse

Alexandra Burke, Jason Donovan and Jac Yarrow, the young new wearer of the dreamcoat, are to star in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat when it returns to the Edinburgh Playhouse in October 2022.

Jac Yarrow will star throughout the 2022 tour of this all-new London Palladium production directed by Laurence Connor. It plays the Glasgow King’s in June, with Jason Donovan confirmed. Tickets are now on sale for both Edinburgh (Tue 25 to Sat 29 Oct) and Glasgow (Tue 14 – Sat 25 June).

For both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Jason Donovan will reprise the role of Pharaoh, which he performed at the London Palladium in 2019 and 2021. In Edinburgh he will be sharing the stage once again with Alexandra Burke as Narrator.

Jac Yarrow, who is preparing to put back on the famous coat as Joseph for the full tour, made his professional debut in the role at the Palladium in 2019. He wowed the critics and garnered an Olivier Award nomination in 2019, returning to similar acclaim after lockdown, with a voice which is reported to rival Burke’s in its power.

Donovan made his transfer from soap and pop star to stage performer when he played Joseph in 1991 for a sold-out 18-month run which produced a No.1 single and best-selling soundtrack album. His Pharaoh raised the roof of the Palladium in 2019 and 2021, rocking out Song of the King.

Alexandra Burke

2008 X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke returns as the Narrator for Edinburgh and several dates on the UK tour including Manchester and Milton Keynes. A regular at the Playhouse in shows such as The Bodyguard and Sister Act, she will also make her movie debut in the film Pretty Red Dress in 2022.

Linzi Hateley will be taking on the role of the Narrator in several dates on the UK tour, including Woking, Liverpool and Bristol. She was nominated for an Oliver in 1991 for her performance in the role, playing opposite Jason Donovan and Phillip Schofield at the London Palladium.

Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator, the musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber has grown from concept album in 1969 to school show favourite to international hit musical.

It follows Jacob’s favourite son Joseph, sold into slavery by his 11 brothers. He ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the advances of Potiphar’s wife.

While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled showman, the Pharaoh. As Joseph strives to resolve Egypt’s famine, he becomes Pharaoh’s right-hand man and eventually reunites with his family.

The new Palladium production is directed by Laurence Connor with choreography by JoAnn M Hunter. Set and costume design are by the award-winning Morgan Large with Ben Cracknell as Lighting Designer and Gareth Owen as Sound Designer.
