Casting Announced for Kinky Boots

Edinburgh is to get split casting for the lead role of Lola in Kinky Boots, when it arrives at the Edinburgh Playhouse for its five week run over Christmas.

Callum Francis will play Lola until 15 December and Kayi Ushe will take over the role from 17 December 2018 for the remainder of the tour. Paula Lane, known for her role as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, will play Lauren and Joel Harper-Jackson will play Charlie.

The touring production sets off from Northampton on September 19 and arrives in Edinburgh on 10 December 2018 where it will run over the Christmas period until Saturday 5 January 2019. Further Scottish dates are in Aberdeen at His Majesties (23 April – 4 May 2019) and at the Glasgow King’s (6 – 18 May 2019).

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots goes from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan by way of a sizzling soundtrack from Cyndi Lauper.

Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.

With a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles) and songs by Grammy and Tony winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is a joyous musical celebration about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind.

With direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray), Kinky Boots is the winner of every major Best Musical award including three Olivier Awards, three WhatsOnStage Awards as well as six Broadway Tony Awards.

Also joining the Kinky Boots cast will be Demitri Lampra  as Don, Adam Price  as George and Helen Ternent as Nicola.

They will be accompanied by Charlie Allen, Nicola Avino,Lizzie Bea, Joshua St Clair, Connor Collins, Daniel Conway, Shaun Dalton, John Dempsey, Niki Evans, Mary Fox, Scarlet Gabriel, Damon Gould, George Grayson, Portia Harry, Joshua Lovell, Jacob McIntosh, Chileshe Mondelle, Alfie Parker, Fred Smiley, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Andy Watkins and Jason Winter.

The musical is based on the 2005 film Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth. Directed by Julian Jarrold it stared Joel Edgerton as Charlie with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola.
