Beyond Broadway Experience’s summer 2018 show will be The Wizard of Oz and applications to take part in the auditions for the fortnight summer school will close online at midnight on Sunday 10 September 2017.
The BBE 2018 will run from Saturday 7 to Thursday 19 July 2018, culminating in with three performances of The Wizard of Oz at the King’s Theatre on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July. Auditions will be held in Edinburgh on Sunday 5 November 2017.
This will be the third BBE, following this year’s production of Fame the Musical and Bring it On in 2016. Anyone applying to take part should be aged between 13 and 25 on 1 July 2018. Rehearsals will run 9am to 10pm, every day in the rehearsal period.
This year there will be an additional group available for younger performers aged between 8 and 12 on 1 July 2018, to play the Munchkins. This younger group will have a four day rehearsal period, Monday 16 to Thursday 19.
According to the team behind BBE, taking part in the show gives participants the opportunity to: “work with professional directors, choreographers, musical directors, theatre designers and performers to put on a huge show in the beautiful King’s Theatre, Edinburgh.
“Working intensively in rehearsals for the two weeks running up to opening night, cast are put through their paces by our professional creative and production teams. You get to work with some of the best in the industry – and have a lot of fun along the way!”
RSC version
The company will be staging the RSC version of the story originally written by L. Frank Baum. It was adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company from the 1939 film screenplay and retains the music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg with background music by Herbert Stothart.
This is a commercial summer school with associated costs, including £10 to register for auditions and £260 for those taking part in the two week summer school (£200 for Munchkins).
