Redknapp & Davies take 9 to 5
Headline casting announced for 9 to 5 The Musical
Louise Redknapp and Amber Davies will take lead roles in the production of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 The Musical when it arrives at the Edinburgh Playhouse in November.
Redknapp and Davies will continue the roles they are currently playing in the West End production of the show, with Redknapp as Violet Newstead and Davies as Judy Bernly, two of the trio of women who take on their sexist, egotistical boss.
Casting has yet to be announced for the third member of the trio, Doralee, the role played by Dolly Parton in the 1980 movie on which the musical is based.
The tour opens in Birmingham in September, plays a week at the Glasgow King’s from October 8 and Aberdeen from October 22 before arriving at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Tuesday 12 November where it plays through to Saturday 16 November 2019.
Louise Redknapp most recently starred as Sally Bowles in the national tour of Cabaret and in 2016 reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing. As a musician Louise has sold millions of records. She was a member of the band Eternal before embarking on a highly successful solo career, with her first live shows in 15 years selling out all over the UK.
Love Island
Amber Davies graduated in 2016 with a Diploma in Musical Theatre from the Urdang Academy. Her credits whilst training include Bring It On, My Favourite Year and Memphis. In 2017 Davies was the winner of the hit ITV reality series Love Island.
The most recent production of 9 to 5 opened in the West End in February, where Dolly Parton attended the premiere and joined the cast on stage at the finale. It features a book by Patricia Resnick, the film’s original screenwriter, coupled with an original score and lyrics by Dolly Parton.
The show is directed by Jeff Calhoun and is choreography by Lisa Stevens. Design is by Tom Rogers with lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Poti Martin and video design by Nina Dunn.
