The Lyceum’s autumn season opens on Wednesday 17 September with the preview performances of Kill Johnny Glendenning by DC Jackson. Artistic director Mark Thomson is at the helm, previews continue Thursday and Friday, press night is Saturday 20 September 7.30pm and the run continues to 11 October.

The Lyceum’s executive director, Alex McGowan, told Æ: “We are changing the starting time of our evening performances to 7.30pm in response to audience feedback over the last year.

“In particular, with reference to getting home via public transport especially after performances of plays with longer running times.”

The new start time brings the theatre into line with nearly every other theatre in Edinburgh. The only variations are at the Traverse, where there are a handful of 8pm starts, and the Festival Theatre, where curtain up for opera productions is traditionally at 7.15pm.

When it comes to the Lyceum’s Christmas show, curtain-up times will remain as in previous years and in line with general practice around Edinburgh for children’s shows, with a 7pm start for evening performances and 2pm for matinees.

a murderous comedy

Kill Johnny Glendenning is described as: “a murderous comedy of the Glasgow underworld, taking aim at the tabloid celebrity and macho glamour of the gangster life”. A co-production with the Glasgow Citizens, David Ireland takes the title role, with Philip Cairns, Kern Falconer,  Steven McNicoll, Paul Samson, Joanne Thomson and Josh Whitelaw making up the rest of the cast.

Tickets are priced £19 (upper circle), £25 (standard) and £29 (premium) for evening performances and £17, £20 and £24 for matinees. Season tickets are available for all six of the Lyceum’s main productions (excluding the Christmas show), priced £96 (upper circle) and £130 (all stalls and circle seats) for evening performances; and £85/£100 for matinees.
