Terry to play Alex in Selladoor tour

Matt Terry, the winner of X-factor in 2016, will be roaring into Edinburgh as Alex the Lion in the major UK tour of Madagascar – The Musical, coming to the Playhouse in October.

The production, which has a book by Kevin Del Aguila, is based on the DreamWorks animated movie. It opens in Wimbledon in July with Terry booked to appear on the tour through to the end of 2018. It is produced by SellaDoor Family with Harshorn-Hook Productions.

Madagascar – The Musical follows a group of animal friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Announcing his involvement, Terry said: “I am so excited to be making my acting debut in the brand-new production, Madagascar – The Musical. It’s a childhood memory for all of us!



“I can’t wait to be playing the lead role of Alex and bringing him to life. Expect incredible costume, set and cast. And the music is immense! It will be an awesome night for everyone to enjoy. See you all there.”

Matt Terry will be joined by a cast which includes Antoine Murray-Straughan as Marty the Zebra, Timmika Ramsay as Gloria the Hippo and Jamie Lee-Morgan as Melman the Giraffe.

Directed by Kirk Jameson, the show will add new musical numbers to the existing story with original music and lyrics by George Noriega and Joe Someillan.

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York’s Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends – Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo – have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them.

Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape – with the help of some prodigious penguins – to explore the world.

Also appearing in the production will be Shane McDaid, Laura Johnson, Jessica Niles, Victoria Boden, Matthew Pennington, Jo Parsons and Darren John.
