Record breaker for Edinburgh Playhouse

The world’s longest running production, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, will play the Edinburgh Playhouse in April 2023 as part of a 70 date 70th anniversary tour.

Tickets are on sale now for the long-running whodunnit’s visits to the Edinburgh Playhouse (Mon 24 – Sat 29 April 2023) and the Glasgow King’s (Mon 1 – Sat 6 May 2023) with tickets to other Scottish venues on sale soon.

The Mousetrap’s is due to return to Edinburgh in April 2023 on its 70th anniversary tour.

The 70th anniversary tour will open in the same theatre that it held its world premiere, the Theatre Royal in Nottingham, on Tuesday 26 September 2022. It will be at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin on the exact 70th anniversary of the premiere, which was on October 6, 1952.

It is booked to arrive at the Perth Concert Hall in the week Mon 17 – Sat 22 April 17 2023, His Majesty’s Aberdeen from Mon 12 – Sat 17 Jun 2023 and Dundee Rep Mon 10 – Sat 15 Jul 2023.

This will be the fifth outing for the show in Edinburgh in the last ten years. In 2012 the long-running Sixtieth anniversary tour played the Kings – returning in 2014 and again in 2016. Most recently, it visited the Playhouse in 2019.

Christie’s ever-green whodunnit centres on a group of strangers who find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover – to their horror – that a killer is in their midst.

suspicious characters

One by one, the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts. But which one is the murderer? And, more to the point for the snowed-in strangers, who will be their next victim?

Adam Spiegel, the producer of The Mousetrap, said: “What better way to celebrate 70 glorious years of The Mousetrap by taking Agatha Christie’s world-famous whodunnit to over 70 towns and cities throughout the UK and Ireland.

“A true British classic, this beloved tale of intrigue and suspense is as enthralling today as it was when it first opened in 1952 and I am thrilled that audiences, of all ages, and from all corners of the country, will have the chance to see it in their local theatres.”

Casting and further tour venues are to be announced at a future date.
