Auditions are due to take place on Saturday 27 September at the YMCA Edinburgh Acorn Centre, 10am – 5pm. They are open to anyone aged 11 – 18 at the time of the audition.

Musical genres included in the show, which is set in early 20th century New York, include marches, cakewalks, gospel and ragtime. Mostly sung-through, it is based on E. L. Doctorow’s 1975 novel Ragtime, with book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty.

This will be A-Team’s second production after their version of Sweeney Todd ran at St Brides earlier this year (See Hugh Simpson’s review here).

A-Team Productions chair, Sean Quinn, told Æ: “We are really keen to increase the number of auditionees this year. We are seeking a large and diverse cast of 30 young people ages 11-18 and there are many parts up for grabs.”

Pleasance Theatre

Ragtime The Musical will take place at the Pleasance Theatre from Wednesday 18 – Saturday 21 February 2015. Rehearsals will be twice weekly, starting Sunday 12 October and take place on Wednesday and Sunday evenings at the Acorn Centre.

Direction will be by Katie Stephen with Clare Gately as assistant director and musical direction from Finlay Turnbull. Katie Innes will design the show with the assistance of Steph Duncan and costume design will be by Michaela Robertson.

Quinn added: “This is an incredible opportunity for any young person to join a team of talented individuals and participate in a huge stage production. I encourage any young person with an interest in performance to audition, our last show was a massive success and preparations are already underway to make our next season even more exciting.”

A-Team Productions is a not-for-profit youth theatre organisation based in North Edinburgh, supported financially by the Big Lottery Fund. Following on from February’s production, the company ran a successful summer workshop at the Acorn Centre.
