Annual Showcase Auditions
Showcase, the amateur musical theatre company which exists to raise money for McMillan Cancer Support, has put out an open audition call for new members and announced its 2019 schedule.
The auditions are open to anyone aged over 16 and will be held on Thursday 14 March at St Michael’s Parish Church on Slateford Road. Contact the company (details below) for further details and to secure an audition slot.
This audition is to secure a place in the company. Further auditions for solos and featured singers will take place later in the year.
Showcase’s main event in the year is its Autumn performance week at the Church Hill Theatre, running Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 September this year. The staged concert/dance performance is normally a mix of show tunes, film hits and rock and pop numbers, programmed around themes over the evening.
The company have set a very high standard in recent years (see reviews) and probably set the benchmark for such concert type performances in Edinburgh. It is adept at giving numbers to its soloists and featured singers which stretch them while allowing to perform to their strengths.
The heart of Showcase depends on a solid and versatile chorus. There is also a strong choreographic element to the show, raising it from a purely concert event, to a properly stage production.

The company will also stage two short concert series over the year, both playing at Stockbridge Parish Church and then St Anne’s Parish Church Corstorphine. The Spring series is on the 17/18 May and there is a Christmas season on 6/7 December.
The company has one rule: “To raise funds for charity by profitably staging an annual show offering the highest standard of entertainment and professionalism, comprising a wide variety of musical styles and sources, drawing on the rich vein of amateur musical talent in the Edinburgh area.”
Since Showcase was founded in 1991 the company has focussed on MacMillan Cancer Support and, so far, has raised £282,500 for the charity.
