Sick Boy to Sky
Casting for Mamma Mia! tour announced
Philip Ryan, who played Sick Boy in the In Yer Face production of Trainspotting at the Fringe, has been cast as Sky in the tour of Mamma Mia! coming to the Playhouse in November 2016.
Ryan graduated from Arts Educational last year and took over the role of Sick Boy halfway through the run when Neil Pendleton got a job in Hollywood.
Ryan will play the role of Sky, the fiancé of Sophie, who will be played by Lucy May Barker, in the jukebox musical based on the songs of Abba. The main role of Donna, Sophie’s mother, will be played by Sarah Poyzer with Jenna Lee James as her alternate.
They will star alongside Jacqueline Braun as Rosie and Emma Clifford as Tanya, Donna’s best friends with whom she was in a girl band: Donna and the Dynamos.
Dads
Sophie’s potential dads are played by Richard Standing (Sam Carmichael), Tim Walton (Harry Bright) and Christopher Hollis (Bill Austin).
Further roles are played by Micha Richardson (Ali), Blaise Colangelo (Lisa), Louis Stockil (Pepper) and Sam Robinson (Eddie).
Mamma Mia! opens in Bristol in March and arrives in Edinburgh in November where it will stay until January 2017, before going out on further dates, to be announced.
With music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.
The In Yer Face production of Trainspotting – with Philip Ryan as Sick Boy – was reviewed here and here, during its run at the fringe in 2015.
