Classic musical sets Festival Theatre dates

The Chichester Festival Theatre revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific will play Edinburgh’s  Festival Theatre and the Glasgow Theatre Royal in October 2022.

The critically acclaimed production is set to open at Manchester Opera House on 16 July 2022 ahead of a season at Sadler’s Wells, London from 27 July to 28 August 2022 before embarking on a UK and Ireland Tour, visiting Glasgow from the 4 to 8 October and Edinburgh from 25 to 29 October 2022.

Tickets are already on sale to Friends of the Festival Theatre (click for details) and go on general sale from Thursday 18 November 2021 at 10am. Tickets for the dates at the Glasgow Theatre Royal are already on general sale (click for details).

This powerful love story which carries a strong anti-racist message is set on a South Pacific Island during World War ll and this revival is staged by a cast of over thirty and a full orchestra in a production directed by Chichester Festival Theatre’s Artistic Director Daniel Evans.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical features such songs as Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair and Bali Ha’i.

Following its critically acclaimed, sell-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre this summer, co-producers Jamie Wilson and Jonathan Church said: “After experiencing the buzz of the auditorium in Chichester, along with the rapturous applause and standing-ovations, we knew that this production of South Pacific just had to have a further life so that the magic of it could be enjoyed by everyone.”

Full casting for the tour has yet to be announced, although West End leading lady Gina Beck will be reprising her role as Ensign Nellie Forbush, who falls for older French expatriate French plantation owner Emile de Becque, but struggles to accept his mixed-race children.
