Steamie Cast Announced
Casting for Thirtieth anniversary tour
The full cast has been announced for the nine-week Autumn tour of The Steamie, which will play the Edinburgh King’s in November 2017.
The phenomenally successful show about four women gossiping on a 1950s Old Year’s Night in the last days of the Glasgow wash-houses has become staple on the amateur circuit and last had a fully professional tour in 2012.
Written by Tony Roper, with songs by David Anderson, it was first staged in May 1987. A version was made by Scottish Television for Hogmanay 1988. Roper will directing the touring production which sets out from Kirkcaldy in September.
Two of the cast from the 2012 tour will be returning. Mary McCusker is reprising her role as old Mrs Culfeathers who harks back to the past, Fiona Wood returns as young Doreen, whose idea of the future is so optimistic that her idea of nirvana is a Drumchapel council house.
Joining them will be Libby McArthur as larger-than-life, busybody Dolly with Carmen Pieraccini as the harsh-tongued Magrit, whose husband is a no-good drunkard. Steven McNicoll is the play’s token man, Andy the wash-house janitor.

Saw your production today. It was superb. Having seen several versions over the years, I feel I don’t want to see it again. You topped the lot !
Best wishes for the rest of the tour.
