Edinburgh Auditions for National Youth Ensemble

Scottish Youth Theatre is to set up a new national ensemble of young performers, based on ability and paid for through its own core funding.

The company, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary today, 6 December 2016, announced that it will be holding open auditions for places in the ensemble in January and February 2017. They will take place in eight locations around Scotland from Stornaway to Stranraer.

The Edinburgh auditions will take place at Dancebase on Sunday 26 February 2017.

Aspiring auditionees need to register for an audition through the SYT website. Registration is free and open to anyone aged 16 to 25 who lives, works, studies or whose parents live in Scotland. There will be no participation fee with entry based purely on the performer’s ability and commitment.

Once recruited, the Ensemble will undertake development sessions across Scotland working with professional theatre-makers.

SYT artistic director Mary McCluskey promised: “We will ensure participants work at the highest level, collaborating with some of the most influential practitioners and performers working in Scottish theatre today.”

qualifications

SYT already has a core programme of weekly classes and holiday courses at its Glasgow base. At its summer course, these can lead to gaining qualifications in performance. It also visits schools around Scotland.

McCluskey said: ¨The National Ensemble is something we have wanted to do for quite some time. It is an example of our commitment to giving talented young people the opportunity to challenge and develop their theatre skills. They will also have the opportunity to gain a formal qualification which will aid them in accessing further education and industry work.”

      Hello Santiago,
Sorry you missed out on this opportunity. A good place to start looking for acting experience in Leith is the Strange Town youth theatre company, which is based in the Out of the Blue Drill Hall, which has acting groups arranged by age: 8-10s, 11-14s, and 14-18s.

      Their website is:

      Hope you find something!
