Verity Rushworth is Holly Golightly at King’s

Emmerdale star Verity Rushworth will take on her “dream role” of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, when the production tours to the King’s in 2016.

Rushworth will join the UK tour of the Curve Theatre production from May 2 to June 11 2016, including its visit to the Edinburgh King’s, May 30 – June 4. She will be taking over from Pixie Lott.

Set in New York in 1943, Breakfast at Tiffany’s involves the story of charming, vivacious and utterly elusive good-time girl, Holly Golightly, as recalled by young writer Fred.

He is completely fascinated by this exquisite extrovert – who every woman wants to be, and every man wants to be with.

Everyone falls in love with Holly – including Fred. But Fred is poor, while Holly’s other suitors include a playboy millionaire and the future president of Brazil. As war rages on in Europe, Holly begins to fall in love with Fred – just as her past catches up with her.

The script, adapted by Richard Greenberg, is closer to Truman Copote’s original novella than Blake Edwards’s iconic movie of 1961 staring Audrey Hepburn, according to reviews of the original production which ran on Broadway for 38 performances in 2013.

Direction will be by Nikolai Foster, whose light hand was behind last year’s big touring production of Calamity Jane. Production design will be by Matthew Wright, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Mic Pool.

Verity Rushworth, who played the role of Donna Windsor in Emmerdale for 11 years, said, “I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to play the dream role of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

“I cannot wait to step into the fabulous shoes of such an icon and discover the endless layers to her complicated and fascinating personality – not to mention her wardrobe!”

More dates and casting details to be announced.
