Pub Theatre launchs Spring Season

The Village Pub Theatre is launching its Spring season of script-in-hand performances of new theatre, tonight, with The Big Thaw.

The evening is not be given over to Inspector Morse although you’d be forgiven for expecting it to be so, given the cryptic vein in which these pesky wordsmiths’ brains work.

VPT producer Sophie Good, told Æ: “Tonight’s night is all about new beginnings and new life. We have a fantastic range of writing, from writers known to VPT as well as some new faces.”

There will be seven new plays, from as many playwrights, performed by Liz Strange, Nicola Jo Cully and Steven McIntyre with guidance from guest director Caro Donald.

Good says: “We have tried to give the night over to our newer writers as much as possible, those who our regular audience will have heard a little less from; as well as a special guest director in the form of Caro Donald.

“So tonight will be fresh voices and, as ever, a great eclectic range of comedy and hard-hitting drama in bite-sized portions. Each one is a sapling waiting to flourish into a fully grown play one day soon!”

Æ understands that playwright and producer James Ley is on home baking duties. And tonight’s plays will be, in order of presentation:

  • Belongings by Belle Jones
  • Sprinter by Jennifer Adam
  • Ruserrection.com by Jonathan Holt
  • Overslept by Samuel Jameson
  • Snowdrop by Giles Conisbee
  • Herr Mullen by Grace Cleary
  • The Vision Splendid by Elspeth Turner

The night is also the first of three spring VPT nights. In a months time, VPT moves forward two days, in order that it can take on April the first for April Fools. And returns to a Monday night for the beginning of May, or maybe that should be a Pun-day night, as the title of the evening’s entertainment is May the Fourth be With You.
