VPT returns on Friday with Zoom event
Village Pub Theatre are running their second Virtual Pub Theatre on Friday the First of May 2020. And, to celebrate International Worker’s Day, the theme is WERK!
VPT thrilled a packed virtual pub of over 60 with their inaugural event on April 10. In Celebration of the Public House (Æ review: ★★★★☆ Virtually strong) featured six new scripts, an interval chat and even a post-show sing-song – and now the company is at it again.
It’s Friday evening, it’s Mayday, let’s get to WERK!
“We’re keen to keep going because we felt that it created a sense of community and togetherness not seen in other online events so far,” VPT’s Sophie Good told Æ.
“The pieces were performed live which was exciting I think for people, as well as having the usual kind of lo-fi feel to VPT which made the technical challenges part of the fun!
“It was great seeing our audience sat on the sofa, enjoying a drink or a take away and enjoying a change from Netflix…”
Good and fellow VPT founder James Ley are stepping back from directing duties this time round and have got two new guest directors: Annie George and Amy McKenzie.
on writing duties
Joining Sophie Good on writing duties will be Sylvia Dow, Jill Franklin, Grace Cleary, Alison Carr and Nicola Jo Cully.
As usual, the directors and actors will have a one hour Zoom rehearsal of each play on the day of the performance, with the writer also taking part. The plays will then be performed script-in-hand on the Zoom performance.
“The writers have taken on the theme in different ways – but they are a great mix and will be a great challenge for our guest directors”, says Good.
The actors will be announced today, Thursday, and the facebook event with full details of how to join the performance on Zoom will go live at noon.
