Open call for Paprichoo’s Number, Please
Edinburgh-based female-led theatre company Paprichoo is reviving its production of spy spoof Number, Please for EdFringe 2019 and has put out an open call for cast members.
The show will go on a short tour in July ahead of a full run at EdFringe 2019. The amateur company will cover travel and accommodation costs while touring but any payment will be on a profit share basis.
Auditions will be held in central Edinburgh, Friday 1 and Saturday 2 March, with callbacks on Sunday 3 March. Auditionees will be informed of location on application.
Number, Please had a successful run at EdFringe 2018. Set in 1952 it is a fast-paced original comedy which satirises classic spy films with an abundance of fourth wall breaks and shocking plot twists, as well as the expected high-speed train chase.
When switchboard operator Sheila Chadwick answers a mysterious call from a dying woman, she is entrusted with a top-secret message to be delivered to the ominous Charles Briand.
“Think Clue. Think Monty Python. Think The 39 Steps, but with actual roles for women,” say Paprichoo.

Formed to promote new feminist writing, Paprichoo aims to create new and exciting roles for women and non-binary people in theatre.
The company believes that there are too many diverse and interesting stories that aren’t being told and aims to give young creatives a safe, professional, and accessible space to tell them.
The show will have a cast of six, playing eleven different named roles and will be cast gender-blind.

Details of venue and time for the EdFringe 2019 production of Number, Please, have yet to be confirmed, but it will run for the full fringe, Thursday 1 to Tuesday 27 August 2019, with one day off.
