Child Casting Call for Miss Saigon

The touring production of Miss Saigon has put out a casting call for child actors to play the role of Tam when the show runs at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in January and February 2018.

The company is looking for boys or girls to play the role. Tam is South East Asian looking, he does not speak, sing or dance but should be small, confident and not fazed by noise. He is not younger than four and not older than six. Children must live within a commutable distance of Edinburgh.

The production is on a major UK tour and will run at the Festival Theatre for a month from Wednesday 17 January to Wednesday 17 February. Several children will be cast in the role. The company is also looking for child actors for the Cardiff dates, from November 29 to January 6, 2018.

Miss Saigon tells a story of the last days of the Vietnam War. Seventeen year-old Kim (played by Sooha Kim who made her professional debut in the production), is forced to work in a Saigon bar run by a notorious character known as the Engineer (Philippines actor Red Concepcion)

There she meets and falls in love with an American GI named Chris (Ashley Gilmour, who played Link Larkin in the most recent national tour of Hairspray), but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon.

For three years Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son, Tam.

Miss Saigon has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, adapted from original French lyrics by Alain Boublil, with additional lyrics by Michael Mahler.
