Professional tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for Playhouse
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is to return to Edinburgh from May 28 to June 2 2024 at the Playhouse in a new professional touring production from Crossroads Live
The production will continue to Glasgow for a two week stay, from August 27 to September 8 2024 at the Glasgow King’s. Tickets for both dates are sale from Thursday 8 June 2023 at 10am. Playhouse tickets are here and King’s Glasgow tickets are here.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is based on Ian Fleming’s children’s story which was made into the 1968 film. Absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts restores a broken-down old racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy. Soon the family discover the car has magical powers and, along with the delectable Truly Scrumptious, the family end up on a hilarious fantastical adventure to far off lands.
This brand-new production is directed by Thom Southerland (Titanic, Parade), choreographed by Karen Bruce (BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, The Bodyguard) and designed by Morgan Large (The Lady Vanishes, The Last Tango). The award-winning musical is bursting with unforgettable songs by the Sherman Brothers including Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain, Truly Scrumptious and the Academy Award-nominated title song.
hugely successful
The musical has just finished a hugely successful week-long run at the Festival Theatre in a production from Southern Light Opera (★★★★☆ Star car). A tour of the West Yorkshire Playhouse production visited the venue in 2016 (★★★★☆ Scrumptious, truly).
The original musical of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang toured to the Edinburgh Playhouse for the Christmas season 2006, staying for ten weeks. The remounted 2009/10 tour spent three weeks at the theatre in May/June 2010.
The 2024 tour opens at the Mayflower Southampton on April 30 and is booked until December 1 at the Bournemouth Pavilion, with further dates to be announced. Casting will be announced at a later date.
