Gin Joint Ticket Jump
Casablanca PPP moves to Traverse 1
Extra tickets have been released for Casablanca: the Gin Joint Cut, this coming week’s A Play A Pie and A Pint lunchtime theatre show at the Traverse from Tue 30 April to Sat 4 May 2019.
The show has moved into Traverse One because of an unprecedented demand for tickets. Traverse Two has a capacity of 123, with Traverse One able to hold at least 213 people, meaning that over 500 extra people can now see the show’s six performances.
Anyone wishing to get in to see the show will have to be fast, however, as audiences have already snapped up many of these extra seats, with the performances on Tuesday and Saturday lunchtimes already showing “returns only” online.
Written and directed by Morag Fullerton, Casablanca: The Gin Joint Cut is a lovingly disrespectful homage to one of the classic films of all time. It was first performed at Oran Mor in 2010 and then at the EdFringe of 2011.
Using a play-within-a-play structure, the show first establishes the rules of engagement – smoking on screen and all – before whisking back to the deserts of Casablanca, 1941, where the Nazi take-over of Europe is well underway.
Gavin Mitchell plays Bogart playing American Rick Blaine, and several suave introductory characters too. Clare Waugh is a sensual Bergman playing Ilsa and a dastardly Major Strasser. Kevin Lennon takes over the role created by Paul Henreid (and played by Jimmy Chisholm at the 2011 Fringe) and just about everyone else.
The Traverse box office has sent an email to existing ticket holders, advising them to allow extra time due to the larger audience who will be attending.
The email says: “We advise that you allow extra time if you’re planning to have your pie and drink before the show – or, for a more relaxed experience, we recommend having your refreshments following the performance.
“Pies will be served from 12pm on the day and after the performance until all audience members have been served.”
