Foolish ways
VPT springs an April Fool
Comic poet Pab Roberts is to join the writers and performers of the Village Pub Theatre this Wednesday, as the pop-up theatre company celebrate the first of April.
The announcement of Pab’s appearance is no April Fool jape, either – at least according to traditionalist strictures – as the performance starts after noon. Foolery will, however, be on the menu of the actor-turned rhyming comic.
While Roberts is the special guest star, every fool is not a poet according to VPT organiser and playwright Sophie Good who told Æ: “We have a night of superb new writing lined up, from black comedy to political satire and everything in between to celebrate All Fools Day.”
The fools returning to their folly, and joining Good on the writer’s bench are James Ley, Helen Shutt, Belle Jones, Louise E. Knowles and Grace Cleary.
The foolish hearts working script-in-hand under the inimitable direction of Caitlin Skinner – who is herself hot from directing the sell-out production of Jekyll and Hyde for Lung Ha’s – will be the Bens: Winger and Clifford, as well as Liz Strange and Sarah MacGillivray.
Pab Roberts has been writing and performing fatuous verse for a number of years and says he is inviting his audience to try, once again, to make sense of it. Rather surprised that his last Fringe Show sold-out, “with repeat incursions of teenagers particularly warming to his offbeat view of the world,” he is excited to be performing at the Village Pub Theatre. And says he is looking forwards to hearing the other pieces on the night’s bill.
