June date for cult sixties musical
Cult sixties musical Hair is set to tour the UK next year, playing the Edinburgh Playhouse in June 2019.
The production from Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre was first staged in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the musical.

The tour will open in the New Wimbledon Theatre in March 2019, with confirmed dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Sunderland, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Oxford, Brighton and Milton Keynes.
In the sixties, the musical’s profanity, its depiction of the use of illegal drugs, its treatment of sexuality, its irreverence towards the American flag, and its much talked about nude scene caused much controversy.
It’s 1967, the ‘Age of Aquarius’, and Hair’s tribe of hippie youngsters in the East Village of New York are yearning to change the world, questioning authority and the American flag. Wild, colourful, sexually liberated and free, they are united in protest and song, under the shadow of the Vietnam War.
Hair’s Grammy award-winning score features such iconic hits such as Aquarius, Let the Sun Shine In, I Got Life and Good Morning Starshine. It was written by Gerome Ragni (book and lyrics), James Rado (book and lyrics) and Galt MacDermot (music).
Jonathan O’Boyle will be returning to direct the show, with choreography by William Whelton and design by Maeve Black who were also involved in the original Hope Mill production.
