Silent Disco gets the Xmas Lights treatment

Full details of Edinburgh’s Christmas have been released, including a massive silent disco with light show on George Street, with all tickets due to go on sale at 10am Wednesday 3 October.

The events add to the previously announced return of La Clique Noel Part Deux and You Choose a new show from Nonsense Room, which is adapting the Nick Sharratt and Pippa Goodhart picture book  for the Stage.

Saskia Eng – seen here on The Voice – who will turn on the George Street Lights.

The Christmas Festival will kick off on Sunday 18 November, with Light Night, when George Street will be taken over by 24 groups of singers and dancers on different stages – some 850 performers – for a major free public event.

These will include a performance from Saskia Eng, the young Edinburgh singer who competed on The Voice this year, who will also be switching on the Christmas lights – with accompanying dramatic firework display.

The major light installation on George Street sees the return of a redesigned Street of Light, which started life in the High Street before moving down to George Street in recent years.

The major innovation this year is the marriage of a Silent Disco with Street of Light to create Silent Light, which will see up to 3,000 people at a time grooving away with headphones on, dancing to music only they can hear that is synchronised to a light display on the Street of Light display.

These 20 minute silent dance parties will take place up to five times a day, between 4.45pm and 10pm, with three different sound tracks at different times of day.
