Covid blow to King’s final show

Covid-19 has caused the remaining performances of Sunshine on Leith at the Edinburgh King’s to be cancelled, from today, Tuesday 14 June 2022.

According to an announcement from Capital Theatres, Covid-19 has effected key members of the cast. The co-production with Pitlochry Festival Theatre had been due to run at the King’s until this Saturday, 18 June, with evening performances and matinees on Wednesday and Saturday.

Capital Theatres says that all impacted customers will be contacted by email or phone and automatic refunds will be issued for all ticket holders.

Sunshine on Leith is due to return to Pitlochry from June 24. It will be playing in rep at the theatre for the Summer Season, with 23 performances on various dates through to October 1.

In a statement on Social Media, Capital Theatres said:  “As co-producers, we are all devastated that after so much work producing this fabulous heart-warming show with our friends at Pitlochry Festival Theatre it has been cancelled due to this awful pandemic.

“It is especially disappointing because it was our last show before the King’s closes for redevelopment. We would like to thank you for your continued support during this difficult period.”

Further details of the run at Pitlochry are available on the PFT website: https://pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com/

I would like to complain that I did not receive any prior notification, either by email or by phone , about the cancellation of Sunshine on Leith today. I wasted three hours travelling to Edinburgh and back, plus travelling expenses, to be told at the theatre door that the matinee performance today was cancelled.
This is not good enough considering you have my contact details from when I made the booking.

    Totally in agreement with previous
comment. We only found out the night before when our daughter saw something on facebook. This was too late to cancel our hotel booking. Sympathy for company re covid but not sending email or greater media information is unacceptable. Still not received notification 2 days later !!.
