Isobel McArthur’s unique and audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s classic love story was critically acclaimed when it played at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre and then toured to the Lyceum in early 2020 (★★★★☆ Effervescent).

Men, money and microphones are fought over in an irreverent but affectionate adaptation, which includes pop classics such as Every Day I Write the Book, Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and You’re So Vain.

McArthur co-directs with Simon Harvey and will once again play Darcy and Mrs Bennet. She is joined by Leah Jamieson and original Tron cast members Tori Burgess, Christina Gordon, and Hannah Jarrett-Scott. All five play young female servants retelling one of literature’s most famous stories and taking on every other character – beside singing and playing instruments.

The Lyceum’s artistic director, David Greig, said: “When we first opened Pride and Prejudice* (*Sort of) here at The Lyceum in 2020 we knew it was something special – a pitch perfect blend of reverent homage and mischievous send up of Jane Austen’s beloved classic made by a terrifically talented Scottish team of artists.

“Since then, this marvellous show has toured the UK and taken London’s West End by storm, winning the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome this spirit lifting production back to The Lyceum stage to delight audiences in Edinburgh once more this October.”

The show has comedy staging by Jos Houben, design by Ana Inés Jabares-Pita, lighting by Colin Grenfell, musical supervision by Michael John McCarthy, sound design by Michael John McCarthy and Luke Swaffield for Autograph and choreography by Emily-Jane Boyle. The The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Tron Theatre Company and Blood of the Young production is presented by David Pugh.
