Edinburgh amateur company Threepenny Theatricals is stepping into musical theatre for its seventh outing, in November 2024, when it will stage Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the Church Hill Theatre.

The Edinburgh Makars sail through the old-fashioned farce of A Comedy of Tenors at The Royal Scots Club with about as much pace, timing and sheer energy as you could hope.

Huge care and attention has gone into the staging of Threepenny Theatricals’ version of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow. That care, however, does mean that there is a definite absence of energy in a production that never outstays its welcome but frequently threatens to.

★★★★☆ Old world charm:
Threepenny Theatricals’ Dear Brutus at the Church Hill is a resolutely odd piece, hugely uneven in tone, but discharged with such grace and skill that is compulsively watchable.
