Ada for Bedlam fringe
Open auditions for EUTC fringe show
Student amateurs Edinburgh University Theatre Company have announced that open auditions will be held for this year’s fringe production, Ada.
Based on the life of Ada Lovelace, Ada was chosen as the EUTC offering in this year’s Bedlam fringe programme at the theatre’s AGM held this week. Also in the fringe programme will be long-running improvisational comedy troupe The Improverts.
According to EUTC: “Ada is a devised production exploring the life, works and legacy of Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and the world’s first computer programmer.
“The piece will be devised, and the cast and team will work together using source material about Ada, and her life, along with some ideas and theories about modern computing to collaboratively create the production.
“At this point in time there are no specific roles, and we are looking to cast a company of actors who we will work with to develop the characters and narratives in the piece. Absolutely anybody and everybody is welcome to come and audition, and there is no experience necessary. We would love to meet you!”
This is the second production concerning Ada Lovelace to be announced recently. Zoe Philpott is currently creating a one woman show Ada, Ada, Ada, which will premiere in Edinburgh at Summerhall on 11 April as part of the Science Festival, as reported in Æ here in the Science Festival preview.
The EUTC open auditions will be held as drop-in sessions at the Bedlam this weekend Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March 2015, 2pm – 6pm. Extra auditions will take place on Tuesday 3 March from 6pm, room 2.04 Appleton Tower.
There will be texts provided.
