EGTG EdFringe 2019 productions

Angela Harkness Robertson will direct the Merry Wives, which will also tour on the last weekend of August for a one-off performance at the Dell, the RSC’s outdoor performance space in Stratford, on Sunday 1 September.

Abbye Eva will be directing Pool (No Water), which was first staged by Frantic Assembly in 2006, and was written by Ravenhill following a scratch development period with the theatre company.

More immediately, EGTG is taking part in this week’s SCDA One Act competition at the Church Hill with The Actor’s Nightmare on Thursday 4, staging a run of Hand to God at the Assembly Roxy next week (Tue 9 – Sat 13) and an intriguing a translation of Jean Anouilh’s The Lark at Bellfield Community Centre, Portobello (Tue 4 – Sat 8 June).

The EdFringe auditions will be held at 18 Buccleuch Place, 1st floor in the Graduate Association offices at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24 and 2.30pm on Sunday 28 April. Auditionees need only attend one audition session. See contact details below for a copy of the script or audition sides.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

Directed by Angela Harkness Robertson
A total of 15 cast required, with some doubling. 9 men, 3 women and 3 of any gender.

EGTG are updating the setting of this uproarious tale of marriage, mischief, jealousy, lies and laundry to George Page’s Steamie, in the “Windsor Housing Estate,” in 1950’s Edinburgh.

The “Fat Knight,” Falstaff, finds himself in financial peril, and woos two women of Windsor in an attempt to swindle their husbands to regain his squandered wealth. The wily wives are on to him from the start, however, and they plot their revenge with hilarious results.

Meanwhile Anne, George and Margaret Page’s daughter, is pursued by two unlikely suitors, each one approved by a different parent. But she – of course -prefers another.

Will true love win through? Will Falstaff get his comeuppance and finally mend his ways? And will Frank Ford ever accept that wives may be merry yet honest too?

Pool (No Water)

Directed by Abbye Eva
Auditioning for 4 actors of any gender.

Four struggling Bohemian artists have a successful friend. A really successful friend. She has a pool and lives over in LA – that kind of successful. She insists they come and visit her. After an unfortunate skinny-dipping accident, the world-renowned artist ends up in a coma and her broken body inspires the artists to do the unthinkable.

In this dark comedy about envy, success, ownership and ‘art’, Mark Ravenhill shoves these artists in front of the audience, where they try and explain their actions and tell the story of what happened in their eyes.
