The National Theatre of Scotland is calling for submissions for its next Five Minute Theatre event, which will take place on Saturday 14 July.

The second of five planned transmissions this year, the theme will be Youth. Applications are open now and should be submitted by 5pm, Wednesday 6 June.

Meanwhile Vicky Featherstone, founding Artistic Director of the NTS, has been announced as a speaker in the RBS Museums Talks at the NMS on Chambers Street. Taking place on Thursday 14 June at 6.30pm, the ticketed event will be chaired by author and broadcaster Janice Forsyth.

This will be Featherstone’s first major public engagement since the shock announcement that she will leave the job at the end of the year. She will talk about her time in charge of the NTS, the factors behind its success nationally and internationally, and will look ahead to the next steps for the company.

Famous for Five Minutes

The NTS are changing the process for recording and streaming the Five Minute Theatre productions this time. The main hub for recording will be in Fife – at an as yet unspecified location – and all participants will be invited to attend there for live streaming on the 14 July.

Participants can still pre-record and submit performances in advance. A roving crew will also be available to come and broadcast live online – “wherever you are in Scotland” according to the NTS. Companies can  volunteer to be one of the DIY live performers and go live on the day without a crew.

All productions have to be performed in front of an audience, must be no more than five minutes long and must contain material on which the copyright either belongs to the company or has been cleared by them for use.
