VPT goes Panto-crazy

Three night stand for the Village Pub Theatre

By Thom Dibdin

The Village Pub Theatre has announced its Christmas offering, to be staged at the Village Pub on Monday-Wednesday next week.

And there is a guarantee that – what ever the weather – the legendary VPT home baking is also certain to make an entrance.

The show is being described as a “Leithtivity”: a  retelling of the Christmas story in a Leith vein. Uniquely, it has been written by the six VPT writers together: James Ley, Catherine Grosvenor, Morna Pearson, Colin Bell Sophie Good and Louise Knowles.

VPT producer Sophie Good told Æ: “It is a VPT take on the greatest story of all time. We’ve written it as a collective – all the writers together which has been an epic feat but we’re really excited about the results. It should be highly entertaining and great value compared to a panto!”

Direction will be by Caitlin Skinner, with Matthew Leonard, Liz Strange, Paul Cunningham and Sarah MacGillivray, drafted in to give flight to the fancies of the collective.

Good adds: “The Village Pub is on South Fort Street in Leith. Tickets are a mere £3 and of course, it’s in a pub so there will plenty of refreshments available as well as the usual VPT home baking.

“It will be chaotic, funny and slightly mad – a bit like any other night in a Leith Pub.”
